Our Power Services team in Corpus Christi has an immediate need for a Distribution Designer. In this role, you will perform project-related work in the utilities industry designing and planning the construction of overhead and underground power distribution facilities to transmit power from electrical distribution.
What you will do:
· Design overhead and underground electric projects using client-provided engineering software
· Create construction cost estimates
· Gather information from client GIS and maps, Google maps, and Google Earth for any assigned projects
· Determine fuse size and coordination
· Learn and apply client design and construction standards
· Create tree trimming sketches and estimates
· Create right-of-way requirement estimates
· Field check assigned projects
· Stake minor project
Job Requirements
Who you are:
You have good computer literacy and are not afraid to learn new programs and skills. You are a good communicator who not only has oral and written skills but are also an excellent listener with above-average comprehension. Mathematics comes naturally to you and is used for problem-solving and analysis. You are a critical thinker who can apply knowledge to new assignments and uses critical thinking to bring everything together.
What you bring:
· 2-year construction/engineering-related degree or certificate preferred or a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a related field preferred
· Proficiency in using various computer software packages
· Knowledge of utility design and construction standards for electric overhead and underground is a huge plus
· Candidate should be a self-starter and results-oriented and be able to work under tight and pressured deadlines
· Basic understanding of electric distribution equipment and materials
· Ability to use a personal computer for technical designer applications
· Knowledgeable in one or more (MicroStation, AutoCAD, O-Calc) and utility design software (DDS, NIS, GIS)
· Intermediate understanding or willingness to learn NESC, NEC, and ANSI codes and standards
· Intermediate understanding of electricity and applied electrical systems
· Ability to read, interpret, summarize, and discuss blueprints, technical drawings, and maps
· Ability to communicate effectively with architects, engineers, construction contractors, clients, customers, and the company’s management
· Motivated and able to work independently
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
