Job Title: Area Superintendent, Sheet Metal


Overview:

Reporting to the Department Manager and working with other Area Superintendents, this role leads the operations, planning, and personnel management for General Forepersons and Forepersons in the sheet metal trade within the assigned area.


Key Responsibilities

Field Operations:

  • Lead and monitor all field activities to maintain productivity and achieve project goals.
  • Assist direct reports with resource allocation, team assignments, project strategies, and schedules.
  • Review weekly project updates, resolve issues, and enforce QA/QC and safety protocols.

Strategic Planning:

  • Implement standardized processes to boost productivity and quality.
  • Identify and manage risks related to installations, materials, equipment, and workforce.
  • Ensure field teams follow updated safety protocols to minimize risk.

Personnel Management:

  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and respect.
  • Mentor and develop supervisors for future leadership needs.
  • Coordinate labor requests and manage union sheet metal hiring and terminations in the assigned area.

Collaboration:

  • Build strong, cross-functional relationships with departments and locations.
  • Partner with Project Managers on bidding, labor budgets, and resource planning.
  • Share best practices and collaborate with other superintendents to streamline processes and leverage resources.


Background Profile

Experience & Skills:

  • 12+ years in construction project management, with expertise in sheet metal, controls, air balance, and general fabrication.
  • Strong leadership with a focus on integrity, patience, and ethical practices.
  • Member of the local sheet metal union.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Workspace, ProCore, and Bluebeam.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of local construction safety and quality regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Affiliations with local apprenticeship programs.
  • Degree or certification in construction management, engineering, or architecture.
  • Experience with Autodesk AEC Collection, Smartsheet, Bidtracer, and other collaboration tools.
  • Spanish proficiency is a plus.


Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 pounds as needed.
  • Vision and hearing capabilities for job-specific tasks.
  • Regular travel (75-90%) to job sites and branch offices.
